End of January/February Catch up

Ok - I'll admit.  This project is WAY more difficult than I imagined.  On paper....it sound super easy - take ONE picture a day.  In a techinologically advanced, digital world, when I always have a camera at my finger tips - seriously, how hard could it be??  Let me tell you - between work, kids, dinner, laundry, lunches, books, homework, more work, cleaning, and a husband, it is hard!!  I have attempted countless times to sync my stupid "smart phone" with the Picasa web album so I could easily upload pictures from my phone.....I'm apparently not smart enough to figure that out!

So, I will continue to do my best - but I'll admit, I'm missing a few days, and I'll probably continue to miss a few days.  I'm only human, being pulled in more than one direction, so I'll do my best.  It HAS so far, made me snap a few pictures (some of which are currently locked so tight on my darn smart phone that I can't currently share) that I wouldn't normally have snapped of the kids/life.  In the short 40+ days of the year, I have stopped more times than I would have in the past to snap a few photos of the kids doing random things - capturing moments I would have otherwise taken for granted.  I'll count that as a small win - and I'm sure look back at these moments and be glad I captured that time.  We so often take for granted that bad things will never happen to us, but reflecting the tragedy that was Sandy Hook, and recent rampage of a disgruntled cop, traffic accidents and other unexpected tragic moments, I may, in the future be glad I captured these memories, or god forbid, my children/husband will be glad I captured them.  I have to remind myself to slow down, and live in the moment.  Maybe that will be what I "give up" for lent - the fast pace, forgetting to appreciating the every day moments.  I may be a little behind, Lent started yesterday, but in the wise words of Fr. Steve - I know if I tell God I'm sorry, he'll forgive me as long as I try to do better.  I will try to do better, stop to enjoy the moments, cherish and appreciate the every day moments that are my children and husband.  Stop getting upset over the delays and slow movings of my children (unless of course, I'm seriously, super late....then all bets are off!)  Cherish their giggles, their snuggles, their love and the joy they bring to our life.  I know soon, I'll look back and wonder where the time has gone - I do that now.  Seems like just yesterday I was holding them in my arms for the first time, but now Lucy works on math problems and can read her own books.  Lexi knows her letters, colors, and is thirsty for knowledge.  Enough reflections....on to the pictures!

Jan 19th: a moment of joy in the snow

Jan 23rd:
The most beautiful ballerina in the land.....
sleeping beauty - sometimes my favorite moment of the day :)

Jan 25th:
Lexi putting on make-up, with a paint brush

Playing school with Grandma!

Jan 27th:
Leaving Port of Miami for a 7 day cruise with Ryan and Kurt & Rochelle Check.  7 days of sunshine, sea, good food, good friendship, and lots of drinks! :)

The first of many (19 total) Long Island Iced Teas.....
Jan 28th: Nassau Bahama
We stopped for Conch Fritters ..... a carribean favorite!

Jan 29th: Fun Day at Sea

An elephant friend awaited us back in our stateroom

Jan 30th:
St. Thomas - a gondala ride to Paradise Point.  A little stressful for one mama who doesn't like heights, or hanging precariously from a cable high above the brush below.  The views from the top were beautiful and the weather was PERFECT!
Are you freakin kidding me.....Don't Panic, and no need to worry that I will try to crawl out of the little tupperware container lifting me to the top!

Stopping for a moment during our walk to "downtown" for a picture with the ship as a lovely back drop.  It was a nice day of seeing the sights and visiting the straw market.  We had tiny rain clouds that passed through all day, brining sweet relief from the sun.

A pretty rainbow to end a wonderful day!

Jan 31st: San Juan Puerto Rico
We spent the day walking around San Cristobal and the downtime area of San Juan.  It is amazing how well they have blended the new with the old.

2/1/13: Grand Turk
We got into port around 11am - so I was able to enjoy my coffee while enjoying the view of coming into Port.  You can see Grand Turk behind me - was a relaxing way to start the morning!

Beautiful blue water, quiet shady beach - the perfect way to spend a day relaxing!!  We didn't see any of the island, which was perfectly fine with me!  We did learn the Grand Turk used to be a large supplier of salt.  The water was pretty rough so there was no swimming for us, so we just dipped our toes in the water and relaxed.

2/2/13: Fun Day at Sea
We spent the day lounging around the pool, reading, and enjoying the company of friends.
The boys enjoyed the waterslide.....
*sigh* they sometimes never grow up......

Finally caught a sunset!

Toasting the end of a wonderful vacation!

2/3/12:
Back on land!  Enjoying Miami after getting back in to Port.

2/5/13: Lucy's 100th day of school.  They all dressed as 100 year olds....she of course had to be the sassy little old lady, complete with curlers!

2/7/13: After a particularily trying bedtime......you'd never know this little angel had been such a terror just 15 short minutes before this picture was taken.  After a very fun "vacation" spent with Grandma and Papa Farnsworth while mom and dad were gone, all the fun finally caught up with her and an epic meltdown ensued.  15 minutes prior - there were a lot of tears, and "some" arguing over whether or not she was tired (or OVER tired).  After she fell fast asleep...I couldn't help but snap a photo of our sleeping beauty, mainly to remind myself just how sweet and innocent she really is.

2/9/13:
A MUCH anticipated trip to see Grandma JoJo.  I'll admit, I don't make the trip to see my Grandma nearly as often as I should, but thankfully my sweet children still love her dearly and ask to see her almost daily.  After many, many weeks of begging, I finally secured a day on the calendar to make the trip to see our beloved Grandma JoJo.  Lucy really wanted to paint Grandma JoJo's nails, but since she had just had a recent polish change, she settled for reading Green Eggs and Ham.  It was so sweet to hear her read, and even sweeter to find out Grandma always enjoyed reading Dr. Suess books to her kids when they were little.

Lexi and Grandma JoJo

2/10/13: a sweet moment watching Lucy read to Lexi.  It is hard to believe that our little Lucy is already READING!

hehehehehehe.....sisters, or clones?

Jan 9 - Jan 18, 2013

Jan 9, 2013

The 10th anniversary of my 21st birthday.  I had vowed to myself that I would take my birthday off this year (as I had to work last year because too many meetings got scheduled that I couldn't miss), but alas, where did I find myself at 8A on the anniversay of the day of my birth?  In the car - ready to head into work....

Ryan and Lucy stayed home sick on my birthday - but rebounded by dinner time.  Chinese and a Hello Kitty Cake (Lucy just KNEW that is what I wanted on my cake) - a pretty good ending to my special day!

Jan 10, 2013:
These little girls were being silly....instead of getting out of bed and ready for school.  Two little monkeys, not using their listening ears - but they looked so sweet, and the giggles melted my heart that I just couldn't help but snap a picture!

Jan 11, 2013:
Snuggling with my littlest one.....love this little baby face (just DON'T call her little....or a baby ~ she is a BIG GIRL!)

Jan 12, 2013:
Ok - I couldn't just pick one.....enjoying a grilled cheese sandwich made with love by Daddy....

Coloring sun catchers for Fancy Nancy and Papa Timmy

Being silly in the tub....

Jan 13, 2013:
Sometimes the morning just comes too soon!

Jan 14, 2013:
Lucy and her Daisy troop friends ~ working on their first Daisy Petal, Lupie the Lupine.  Learning about what it means to be Fair and Honest.  They finger painted Lupine flowers.....a garden of Lupines held by a troop of Daisies!

Jan 15, 2013:
I told them it was time to get up and out of bed.....I found them in bed with Daddy

Someone got to stay home after getting sick - on the kitchen floor.  She recovered quickly and was back to her happy self a little after lunch time.

Jan 16, 2013:
I had a new little office mate for the day - after she came down with the same mild little stomach bug that Lucy had.

Jan 17, 2013:
Writing a Thank You note to Santa.....
I don't know where she picked up this facial expression - but I've noticed a trend this week.

Jan 18, 2013:
A belated picture of my birthday present (mainly because I may, or may have forgotten to take a picture, and the kids were already asleep when I remembered).  A little birdie told Daddy that mommy should have a matching Pandora bracelet like the girls got for Christmas.  The girls picked out my first charms.  A Pink Heart charm from Lexi "cause she knows that I like pink, and hearts" and a Pink Ribbon charm from Lucy "cause you did that walk mommy"

Jan 6 2013

Sunday morning...I spied the girls playing photographer with their new tablets.  They really do love to play with each other, and their newest toy that takes pictures and videos has been lots of fun!

Jan 7 2013 - after what felt like a very long day at work, the girls and I snuggled into bed to just spend a little time together.  It proved to be the perfect time for some impromptu photos!!

Jan 8 2013 - Lucy came home from school today saying her tummy didn't feel good.  After numerous trip to the potty, and a little snuggling on the couch we had our fingers crossed when she crawled into bed that it wasn't going to turn into anything serious.  Then, when I realized I had forgotten a picture for the day and grabbed my phone - she magically felt better :)

5 Days in....5 photos strong :)

Jan 4, 2013: Lucy's Kindergarten Holiday Sing Program.  Thanks to a snow storm 2 weeks earlier, her holiday sing got rescheduled for the 4th.  120+ Kindergarteners singing holiday songs - so sweet!  Considering how much she sings around the house, in the bathroom, in the car, in her bed, at the dinner table, in the bathtub - I was amazed to she her more just mouthing the words and instead focusing on the lights overhead.  Lexi loved every minute of watching her big sister perform - even if we could hardly see her in the sea of faces!

(on a side note - a link to the performance, not part of the project, but just a nice addition!)

Jan 5 2013 - Lucy is well on her way to reading all by herself.  She has mastered quite a few words and does great with easy reader books.  She LOVES to read.  It just melts my heart to listen to her actually read the words to her sister (instead of reciting by memorization!)

The First Few Days

Jan 1, 2013 brought another new year - just another day, like any other.  I rarely get caught up in making resolutions, or all the hoopla that goes with a new year.  After tucking the kids into bed (a little earlier than usual because they were over tired and school restarted the next day), I was unwinding while catching up on Facebook.  I noticed numerous people were vowing to take part in Project 365 - which got me intrigued.  Looking it up, I found it was a pretty easy "movement"  Basically it encouraged people to capture ever day of the year with a picture.  The pictures didn't need to be fancy, or super special, but could simply capture a random moment in the day.  I decided this sounded like fun - and may be pretty cool to look back at a whole year of pictures.  Fingers crossed I can keep it up!  Thankfully on day 2, a post on Facebook reminded me of my new project and I was able to quickly snap day 2's picture.

Jan 1, 2013 - Lexi was SUPPOSED to be asleep, in fact we had thought she was a mere 20 15 minutes before I snapped this picture.  My plan was to go take a picture of our sweet angels as they slept, only I found one sneaky little child who had been playing with stickers!  Sister slept sweetly in the bed above - I have 364 other days to capture her :)

Jan 2, 2013 - Thankfully a facebook post reminded me of my new project!  A quick grab of the camera, I decided to capture our tree - with a few presents still underneath.  I know a lot of people have taken down all Christmas decorations - but to me, it still feels like the holiday and will keep up the tree for another week.

Jan 3, 2013 - Morning scramble.  With the kids being home for almost 2 full weeks for Christmas break (+2 snow days) I'm not quite back in my normal routine of getting things ready the night before.  *disclaimer - while I wanted to pack that bottle of wine in MY lunch box....I settled for tuna salad and a diet coke*
